The Packard Plant has found another potential tenant. Detroit Boxing Legend, Tommy “Hitman” Hearns has announce plans open a boxing gym at the old Packard Plant, which is just a few short blocks from where the legend grew up.

Boxing champ Tommy (Hitman) Hearns (61-5-1 with 48 knockouts) visited the old factory site to meet with Fernando Palazuelo, the charismatic Spaniard who bought the property two years ago and is attempting an ambitious redevelopment.
“We’re still talking,” Hearns, 57, said later. “But we’ll definitely plan to put a gym in there.” The two men chatted and discussed business, including the possibility of someday opening the first Tommy Hearns boxing gym on the plant’s grounds.
The Packard Plant is still in the initial stages of redevelopment. Palazuelo is working to attract financing and industrial, commercial and cultural tenants. Construction work could begin soon on the first planned structure on the project’s restoration list — the old Packard administration building.
The Packard site spans about 40 acres, offering plenty of room for businesses like a boxing gym.
